After her husband leaves her, Roopa (Ayesha Jhulka) has not only to fend for herself, a daughter, Rani; her ailing mother-in-law; and a handicapped brother-in-law, who also lusts for her. Her attempts to procure employment for herself result in vain, and she turns to prostitution. She wants to protect Rani from this kind of life, and leaves her with a kind-hearted family. After the death of her mother-in-law, her brother-in-law, and she re-locate to the big city. Years later, Roopa returns with enough money to get Rani married to Raghunath (Yashpal Sharma). Roopa now thinks that she can retire and look after the welfare of the kind-hearted family. But fate has more in store for her, when she kills Raghunath, who has been abusing her daughter. She is found mentally insane by the courts, and remanded to a mental institution. After a few years, she escapes and looks for Rani. She finds Rani and both rejoice..
