Mahesh Manjrekar (born 15 August 1958) is an Indian director, actor, writer and producer. He is credited with directing the critically acclaimed films Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000) and Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005).

He has won a National Film Award and two Star Screen Awards. Besides direction, he has acted in several films including some of his own productions. He first gained acclaim as an actor for his performance in the 2002 film Kaante, and later played negative roles in the Telugu film Okkadunnadu (2007) and as the gangster Javed in the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

He played the role of Shivaji Maharaj in Marathi film Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy. He also played the role of Harpist Dongara in the Aakhri Chunauti series of episodes in CID.

Mahesh manjrekar started his acting career in 1984.with marathi play Aflatoon. he also as a guest apperencev in a marathi movie uladhal.besides directing he also been actively as an actor , writer and producerand even as a play back singer. He has proved his calibre as an actor by playing roles like Balli and Sultaan. A versatile film personality of the age. He has proved to be a great gain for the Marathi film industry.

He has played a big role in making Marathi films more commercial and entertaining to a large audience.Kaante film stars like Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan. The movie was based on reservoir Dogs. He also acted in movies that he directed like it was Raining That Night (2005) and Deha (2007). He has also acted ina a Telgu movie Okkadunnadu (2007) Slumdog Millionaire that was runaway hit in 2008 saw him as the gangster Javed in 2009, his fans have a year to look forward to with released like Pankh, Wanted Dead and Alive , 99 and Teen Patti.

His directorial debut was a Marathi language movie Aai (1995) He went on to direct movies like Kurukshetra (2000), Rakth (2004) and viruddh (2005).

Mahesh Manjrekar started his acting career in 1984 with the Marathi play Aflatoon. which paved way for him as an award winning producer with more plays like Dhyanimani , Doctor Tumhisuddha, Gidhade, Akashmaat, all the Best and Asecha Amhi Sare. He embarked on his journey as a film maker with the award winning Marathi film Aai for which he won a filmfare for the best director and also bagged he screen Videocon award that year.

Once there, there was no stopping for this man, and he took his vision further with the highly acclaimed Vaastav with Sanjay Dutt. But initial success then gave way to a series of not-so-memorable ventures such as Nidaan, and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rahta Hai, which flopped miserably at the box office . Mahesh Manjrekar started in the Marathi Cinema , Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy which was a major commercial hit in 2009. and marked a comeback of Marathi Cinema.His Lalbaugh Parel and City of Gold (2010 film released in April (2010) This movie based on Mumbai Mill workers Strike.
