Hussain Kuwajerwala ( born 12 October 1977) is an Indian actor, anchor and dancer. His most prominent roles to date have been Sumit Wadhwa in the soap Kumkum (TV series) and Chirag Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Today he stands as one of the most established actors in the Indian television fraternity.
Hussain was born and raised in Mumbai, India to Sakina & Kayyam Kuwajewala. His father died when he was 12 years old, after a long illness. Hussain has claimed that because of his father's death he did not have a very memorable childhood.
He is the youngest of three children. His brother, Qaeed Kuwajewala, is a director and his sister, Nafisa, resides in the United States. Hussain attended Fatima High School in Mumbai and received his BSc degree from Jai Hind College in Mumbai. Hussain has said that during his high school years he had no desire to become an actor and preferred to stay out the public eye. Rather he kept close with his family who also attended the same school as he did. After appearing in a few college theater productions Hussain became more open to options in the media.
After several modeling campaigns and commercials Hussain landed a role in the long running Indian soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Although Hussain played a supporting role, he was recognized and noticed and then offered the lead male role in Bag Telefilms soap Kumkum (TV series), which has been his longest-running and most successful soap to date.
Along side acting Hussain has also anchored several successful shows like Shabaash India, Kisme Kitna Hai Dum, Kuch Kar Dikhana Hai and Khullja Sim Sim (second season), Indian Idol 3, Nach Baliye 3, Indian Idol 4, Dance Premier League and Indian Idol 5. He also participated and won the reality show Nach Baliye 2, along with his wife Tina. Hussain has done advertisements for Close Up, Noga Juice, Leher Kurkure, Perk, Gillette, Priya Gold, Rexona, RMD Pan Masala, United Cookers, Seylon Tea, Harpic and Supreme Detergent, Relispray and Swarup TMT Saria. In early 2009 he signed to his debut Bollywood film called But Adi Loves Sanjana Yaar, but the project has been delayed due to production problems.
In early 2010, Hussain signed the first-ever Bollywood musical, Zangoora: The Gypsy Prince at Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon. Hussain will play the lead opposite Gauhar Khan and Kashmira Irani.[2]
