Akshara Haasan is an Indian film actress, screenwriter, assistant director who works primarily in Bollywood and the Tamil film industry. Haasan was tipped to be launched by Mani Ratnam in his romantic tale Kadal opposite Gautham Karthik. She has also refused several other offers before accepting R. Balki's film Shamitabh along with Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush.

Akshara Haasan was born on 12 October 1991 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. Her father is a Tamilian while her mother is a half Marathi and half Rajput. Shruti Haasan is her elder sister. Akshara is more attached to her mother Sarika and living along with her in Mumbai.

Her Sister Shruti Haasan is a singer as well as a Tollywood and Kollywood actress. Haasan completed her schooling in Chennai, and later at The International School of Bangalore. Haasan will be making her debut as an actress in R. Balki' s new directorial venture opposite Dhanush, which also has Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.
