Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has yet again created a political storm with his controversial ‘urine’ remarks while speaking about the drought situation during a public rally. While the opposition parties have reacted furiously to Pawar’s remark, the state Deputy CM has been also been dubbed as stand-up comedian for his humour-laced comments that ridiculed the acute water scarcity in aharashtra.  Referring to the ongoing hunger strike undertaken by a drought-affected farmer at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, Pawar said: “He is on a fast for the last 55 days. If there is no water in the dam, how can we release it? Should we urinate into it? If there is no water to drink, even urination is not possible.” Reacting to the insensitive remarks by Pawar, Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar tweeted, “Ajit Pawar fancies himself as a stand-up comic. I think his party should take his cue, sack him and let him follow his dream.

(sic)” Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vinod Tawde strongly condemned Pawar’s comments, saying it was a cruel joke on the drought-hit population of the state, to which the deputy chief minister had brought shame. Uddhav Thackeray said Ajit Pawar was mocking the farmers' plight and noted that NCP chief Sharad Pawar highlights his farming background while his nephew was insulting the farmers. The BJP’s Gopinath Munde, deputy leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, said: “Instead of offering relief to drought-affected people, Pawar is cracking crude jokes about them. He has lost his conscience after coming to power.” “I feel ashamed and shocked by Pawar’s remarks,” said Vinod Tawde, BJP leader and Opposition leader in the legislative council.

Taking strong exception to Pawar’s remarks, MNS supremo Raj Thackeray said that people in the next elections will not give votes, but urine to the NCP. "Only then will Ajit Pawar realize that he should have built a dam, otherwise he would be flushed off in the torrent of people's urine." Aam Aadmi Party too joined the chorus for his resignation saying that it was sheer arrogance of power. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said, “Our party not only condemns the statement made by Pawar today but also demands his immediate resignation.” Bhaiyya Deshmukh, the farmer from Solapur district who has been on fast, was also shocked by the insensitivity shown by the nephew of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. He said Ajit Pawar had hurt the sentiments of the people with his comments and that it was unbecoming of the Deputy Chief Minister.
