Song-and-dance sequences are an integral part of Indian entertainment. While Bollywood films can’t do without them, the concept is a hit on television too, with several dance reality shows on air currently. Almost all these shows have a celebrity judge. Madhuri Dixit, Shilpa Shetty and Maliaka Arora Khan have been judges in the past and we’ve now been informed that actor Shahid Kapoor has been approached to judge a number of these contests as well. A source close to Shahid reveals, “Shahid started his career as a background dancer in Taal (1999), was a senior dancer in Shiamak Davar’s troupe and got absorbed in films on his own accord. However, he has declined the offers so far.”
Shahid not to judge
Although he is known for his exceptional dance skills, Shahid Kapoor, feels that he isn’t ready for television yet. Apparently, the actor has been offered three big shows in the last one year. A source close to the actor also mentions that the offers started pouring in after Hrithik Roshan’s show Just Dance got a good response from the audience. “After Hrithik, Shahid is considered to be the next best dancer in Bollywood. The channel heads and production houses who approached him expressed that having him on board would make a huge difference,” says the insider.
Shahid’s fan following among women also makes him an ideal judge according to the dance show makers, says the insider. “Shahid has a huge female fan following. Also since most of these shows air during prime time and target women in the age bracket of 13-40, getting Shahid on their show could promise them great success,” says the insider. The source adds Shahid has been modest in turning down these proposals. “He has been offered big money. Shahid has not agreed. He has declined saying that he is yet to learn a lot as a far as dance is concerned.”
