Indian Cinema has ‘progressed,’ according to Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan has recently emphasised in the presence of the media that Indian Cinema has progressed and its level of prestige has grown rapidly in recent years. The 70 year old Bollywood legend stated the following in a year which marks 100 years of Indian Cinema. “In these 100 years we have (made) a lot of progress, at least for the society. Earlier, film stars were looked down upon in society, but now we have reached a stage where children from well-off families aspire to become a part of the industry.”

Mr Bachchan also acknowledged the talent which is coming out from young filmmakers, who are currently creating interesting and cutting-edge cinema. “I feel great about the new generation because I feel that they are very capable, are doing a great job, and all of them are moving in the right direction.” They are hard-working… they show so much talent that we have never seen.” Mr Bachchan will soon be seen making an appearance in Bombay Talkies, a film that has been directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Bannerjee. It will release on 3 May and has been produced to celebrate the centenary year of Indian Cinema.
