Gautam Gambhir has rubbished reports that he is in the race to be fit for the start of the IPL. Earlier reports suggested that the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper could miss a few games while he recovers from jaundice, but the left-hander made it clear that these reports were ‘over the top’.That’s absurd, over the top news. I AM AVAILABLE FOR THE IPL. Its a mild jaundice, hoping to be good in 4-5 days time. Gambhir says he will be fit for the IPL. AFP However, he won’t be fit in time to compete for the India opening slot for the final Test at Delhi against Australia — after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out with a fracture in his left hand.

In case Gambhir does miss some IPL matches, South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis or New Zealand’s wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum may don the captain’s hat for KKR. Dhawan will certainly miss a few matches in IPL. He has been advised six weeks rest after sustaining a fracture in his left hand during the Mohali Test. The 2013 IPL will be played from April 3 to May 26.
