The Arshad Warsi-Boman Irani starrer earned approximately Rs 12.51 crores over the weekend, while the Ram Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh films opened to dull houses and fared below average at the ticket counters Right from the beginning of 2013, Bollywood has been churning out multiple releases every Friday. This week, three new movies hit the screens – Jolly LLB, 3G and Mere Dad Ki Maruti. And Subhash Kapoor’s Arshad Warsi-Boman Irani starrer proved to be the only film which had a decent earning at the box office – Rs 3.12 crores on the opening day, as compared to the other two films which couldn’t set the cash registers ringing.

Box office report: Jolly LLB races ahead of Mere Dad Ki Maruti and 3G in the opening weekend

Jolly LLB was expected to do good business over the weekend and it did just that! “Jolly LLB has a super Sunday. Collects Rs 5.16 crores. Weekend total: Rs 12.51 crores. Witnesses tremendous growth at single screens and multiplexes,” Taran Adarsh tweeted. Mere Dad Ki Maruti received mixed reviews and was expected to perform better than 3G, but it managed to earn only Rs 1.03 crores. “Mere Dad Ki Maruti has performed better in North India. Collects Rs 1.03 crores on Friday … UAE + GCC Thu and Fri $ 65,000,” Adarsh tweeted. Whereas the supernatural thriller 3G collected in the range of Rs 1 crore on the opening day.

The collections were better in circuits like Central Province (CP) and Central India (CI) but dull in Delhi.Unfortunately, both Mere Dad Ki Maruti and 3G couldn’t attract the audience to the theatres in the opening weekend. It doesn’t seem likely that these films will show any major growth in the days to come considering Jolly LLB is picking up fast thanks to the good word of mouth publicity.
