Look out Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, there's a new Sherlock in town – and that town is Bollywood! Yes, following the success of BBC1's London update of the great detective, and Elementary's New York version, it seems Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation is heading east… Bollywood legend Anil Kapoor is to star in the movie project, currently going by the working title Indian Sherlock. British-based Anand Tucker – known for Hollywood films including Leap Year and Shopgirl – will helm the movie, with acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur also involved.
"Shekhar is involved with the film. He is going to be the creative producer," said Kapoor. "Indian Sherlock is not going to be the title; it’s just tentative. I love this project and am looking forward to working on it." Never one to shy away from a Bollywood remake of a western success, Kapoor is currently working on a TV series based on Kiefer Sutherland's thriller serial 24. "The shooting for 24 is going well. We’re shooting from 7pm to 8am every day," Kapoor told the Hindustani Times. "You like a story and you go about bringing it to the screen. You have to believe in it to make it work."
