With the increasing trend of item numbers in Bollywood these days, they have always been reserved for adults only. But Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has diminished the fear of the same by clarifying the whole criteria of classification of the item numbers in cinema by saying that they are certified purely on a case-to-case basis to see whether they are suitable for a U, UA or A certificate.

Item numbers classified on the age group of audiences Central Board

Leela Samson, chairperson of the Central Board has made a statement saying, "For the last few weeks there seems to be an impression within the film industry that the Censor Board has adopted a rule to certify all dance numbers with an A (adults only) certificate.

" She further clarified that no such decision has been taken by either the Board or by the I & B ministry and the Board has never thought of taking such a step. She added in her statement, "The guidelines governing the certification of films, trailors... simply state that they will be certified depending on the age group of audiences that they are suitable for."
