Bollywood ladies are adding generous doses of bling to their wardrobe and stepping out for red carpet events, parties and private dinners in gilded glam. Thus, from blingy vintage-style drapes to chic western cuts, everything’s in vogue.

“Whether it is couture, prêt or the redcarpet, shimmer works across the board. Bling chic is in,” says designer Gaurav Gupta, who thinks gold is going to be a favourite with the fashionable this season. And predictably, industry style-setters have not shied away from flashing some sparklers. “I feel some can carry off the look better than others — Kalki Koechlin, Kangna Ranaut, Anushka Sharma and Sonam Kapoor look great in gilded western cuts,” says designer Suneet Varma.

Street stylistas have taken a cue from the celeb brigade, and are picking up all things bright and shiny online and at flea markets, too. “People are going mad for glitter this season. It’s everywhere — blazers, shoes, skirts, dresses, just about anything,” says online fashion retailer Tanvi Malik. “Jhilmil, crystals, sab yahi maangte hain aaj kal,” says Sonu, a shopkeeper at Sarojini nagar.
