There could not be a more to-the-details case of plagiarism from a critic’s point of view. Partner could easily be termed as the Indian version of Hitch. In fact the only difference probably is the entry of Salman Khan’s family in the story, while Will Smith’s character in Hitch did not have much to do in the movie.
So the ultracool yet Mr. Good Samaritan Hitch helps men to get the lady of the dreams by simple wooing techniques. Hitch has this as a profession and is in the zenith of his field when he comes across journalist Sara Melas and immediately falls for her subtle rootedness. Subplot sees Albert Brennamen fall for his diva goddess-like boss, Allegra Cole. Seeing the honest feelings in Albert, Hitch goes ahead to give his love story and his own one, a beautiful ending. Here he gets caught in the middle of a series of controversies but all is well in the end.
Now substitute Eva Mendes as Sara by Lara Dutt, Smith as Hitch by Salman, Kevin as Albert by Govinda and Amber as Allegra by Katrina and you have the exactly plot and subplot of Partner. Of course, technically speaking, Hitch is way more global in nature than Partner’s industry appeal. The 2005 Hitch is written by Kevin Bisch while the writers’ credit for 2007 Partner went to Sanjay Chhel and David Dhawan.
