After touching the magical figure of Rs 100 crores in six days, Arbaaz Khan’s debut masala entertainer has started losing its charm at the ticket counters.
The news for Salman Khan, the makers of Dabangg 2 and all those who were hoping for the movie to touch the Rs 200 crore mark doesn’t seem too encouraging. The desi action drama which set the box office cash registers ringing in its first week of release, is finding it difficult to attract the same attention and adulation from the movie buffs in its second week.
The most anticipated sequel of the year which opened with Rs 21.10 crores on Friday, did better business on the weekend – Saturday and Sunday with Rs 19.06 cores and Rs 25 crores respectively. On Monday (December 24), the collections hit a low with the movie earning only Rs 12 crores, but it was up again on Tuesday with Rs 15.50 crores. But Dabangg 2 has failed to live up to the expectations since then, and the collections have been steadily declining – Rs 8.12 crores on Wednesday, Rs 6 crores on Thursday and merely Rs 5 crores on Friday (December 28). Though the movie had no big releases to compete with, it managed to rake in only Rs 8 crores each this weekend thus making Rs 127.78 crores net.
If trade pundits are to be believed, the business was hampered due to severe cold in the North, the on-going Indo-Pak T-20 series and the Delhi gang-rape case which saw the entire nation come together and protest against the shameful incident. Considering the latest box office earnings, we wonder what makes the publicity managers say that the collections have been rock steady!
