Bollywood personalities tweeted in large numbers to express their grief and anguish after Delhi gang rape victim passed away in Singapore hospital.Bollywood actor, Shahrukh Khan, himself the father of a 12 year old girl has been left with no other choice than to condemn the accused, who sadly claim to be men, however, their deeds tell a different story. The incident has impacted SRK so much that he now is sorry to belong to the male fraternity.
Shahrukh Khan also tweeted, “We couldn’t save u but wot a big voice u have, u brave little girl.That voice is telling us that rape is not an aberration,not a mistake, Rape embodies sexuality as our culture & society has defined it. i am so sorry that i am a part of this society and culture. I am so sorry that I am a man.I promise I will fight with ur voice. I will respect women, so that I gain my daughter’s respect.”
Famous Bollywood icons and eminent theatre personalities along with thousands of people also observed a candle-light vigil from Juhu Beach to Kaifi Azmi Park to mourn her death. The Bollywood personalities along with the city youths demanded speedy trial and hardest possible conviction for the culprits involved.
Among the actors, lyricists and singers who took part in the candlelight vigil were Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azami, Om Puri, Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Alka Yagnik, Prasoon Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Kialash Kher, Satish Kaushik and Sonu Nigam. They voiced their ire and anguish against the incident, which led to death of the young 23 year-old paramedical student.
The 23-year-old medical student died in a Singapore hospital where she was being treated for severe injuries.The attack sparked two weeks of protests about gender attitudes in India, and calls for changes to laws on rape and violence against women.
