The versatile actor and proud mum celebrates her 33rd birthday today. Born on December 3, 1979, Konkona Sen Sharma is known for power-packed performances in Bollywood and Bengali films. She is often called the queen of India’s contemporary arthouse and independent cinema. Her father Mukul Sharma is a senior journalist and mother Aparna Sen, a well known filmmaker.
Konkona made her screen debut as a child artiste in the 1983 Bengali film Indira. Seventeen years later, in 2000, she appeared in the Bengali flick Ek Je Aachhe Kanya, followed up by Rituparno Ghosh’s 2001 film Titli opposite her mother Aparna and veteran Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty.
After graduating in English from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College for Women in 2001, Konkona appeared in her mother’s English language film Mr and Mrs Iyer. Her performance was widely appreciated and the versatile actor bagged her first National Film Award for it.
Today, after working in an array of movies in different languages, Konkona has carved a niche for herself in arthouse and mainstream Bollywood films such as Page 3, Omkara, Life in a…Metro, Wake Up Sid, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, The President is Coming, Mirch, Aaja Nachle, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? and Luck By Chance, to name a few.
