Records and Sachin Tendulkar have almost become synonymous. But when he comes out to bat at Lord’s, the man who has rewritten cricket history books will be chasing the biggest one of them all. A number which has been so far unheard of, and till some time back was insurmountable.
A hundred international hundreds: No matter how many times you say it, the effect every time is dizzy and has an unfathomable connotation to it. There is no doubt Tendulkar will get there. The question is when? At Lord’s against the inventors of the game, Tendulkar has the perfect stage. It’s the same country where he started it all; his first Test hundred came here at Old Trafford in 1990 when he was 17. Read: Agarkar has conquered Lord's, but Tendulkar still waiting 21 years and 98 more hundreds later, the man will come out to do the unthinkable. The pressure on Tendulkar at Lord’s will be huge. But again that’s something he has lived with his entire career, in fact he strives on it.
Not only will the mindboggling record be on his mind, but he has to save the Test for India. After a Kevin Pietersen hammering, India look more than out-of-sorts in the game, and more than anyone, Tendulkar knows that a record, no matter how massive, is almost a damp squib in a lost game. He is a winner, and a big hand in a losing cause is just not his thing.
No matter what Tendulkar won’t let England ruin it for him. The maestro knows this is his moment, it always has been, ever since he started playing for India. And after 22 years, he will not let anybody change it. Read: England warned about Tendulkar threat The man writes his own scripts and plays the protagonist in them. A fairytale scenario is set in the scenic Lord’s. Tendulkar with a bat in his hand, and focus in his eyes is ready. It’s game on. 100 hundreds, watch out. You are about to be conquered.
