Activists stop Singham screeningThe screening of Ajay Devgn-Kajal Agarwal-starrer Singham, released on Friday, was stopped after the morning show in many theatres and multiplexes in Bangalore following protests by pro-Kannada activists.

Activists stormed some theatres and ripped apart hoardings, protesting against alleged remarks against Kannadigas in the movie. In Hubli, about 20 activists who tried to disrupt the screening were lathicharged and taken into custody by police. They were let off. Theatre owners and multiplexes representatives in Bangalore have approached police top brass. Theatres in Jayanagar, Gandhinagar and in Basavesh waranagar were the worst hit. "In Jayanagar, we cancelled the screening as soon as activists stormed into theatres. We hope there won't be any trouble on Saturday," a theatre owner said. Additional commissioner of police (law & order) T Suneel Kumar told TOI that Prakash Raj, a lead actor in the movie, had promised to remove the allegedly objectionable remarks. "The actor, a Kannadiga, promised to edit the portion which activists objected to. The movie, after editing, is expected to run without any hitch. We had extended security to theatres and multiplexes wherever required.'' Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Basant Kumar Patil said the chamber has not yet received any complaint in this matter.
