This year has seen many newcomers making their Bollywood debuts. The list includes trio Alia Bhatt, Sidhharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, who launched with Student Of The Year, and Ishaqzaade’s lead star Arjun Kapoor. The trend continues with Y Film’s (a subsidiary of Yash Raj Films) upcoming film, Mere Dad Ki Maruti (MKDM), in which MTV VJ-turned-actor Rhea Chakraborty will make her Bollywood debut.
The film also stars Saqib Saleem, who appeared in Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011). With a young cast as the lead pair, the makers are aiming to replicate the success of their earlier hit, Ishaqzaade, which was appreciated for the on-screen chemistry between actors Arjun and Parineeti Chopra.
The first promo of MDKM will be revealed at the premiere of the Jab Tak Hai Jaan at Yash Raj Studios tonight. “This is a special event for the newcomers — not only is their promo launch attached to a big-budget film premiere, but the entire industry will watch the first look of their movie tonight,” says an insider.
MDKM is the story of a boy who stealthily takes his dad’s car for a drive to impress his girlfriend. The film also marks the directorial debut of Ashima Chibber, who assisted directors Imtiaz Ali and Shimit Amin on Rockstar (2011); and Ab Tak Chhappan (2005) and Chak De! India (2007), respectively.
