Birdies are suspicious that the jungli billi might have been chosen to play the boxer’s role in her upcoming biopic. Really? The nation rejoiced boxing champ MC Mary Kom’s bronze victory at the recent London Olympics 2012. And soon after, an excited Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that he will make a biopic on this brave lady along with debutant director Omung Kumar.
But while SLB and his team were busy preparing the sketch of this biopic, many wondered which B-town actor will be chosen to essay Mary Kom’s role. Our feathered friends instantly started suggesting names like Deepika Padukone (too tall!), Kareena Kapoor (so not sporty!), Minissha Lamba (eh?) and many more. Finally, one smart birdie realised, and maybe happened to eavesdrop on the fact that it could be the not-too-tall and perfectly-built Priyanka Chopra!
“Right now, we don’t know anything about the casting. We aren’t sure if it’s going to be an established star or a new face,” director Omung revealed. But wait, the feathered friend persisted saying, “As far as we know Priyanka is going through the script right now. It’s a big secret because neither Sanjay nor Omung want to let any information about the film out.” Ahem ahem.
But what’s the big secret in that? Don’t actors walk in and out of projects all the time in B-town? Anyway, we’ll have to wait and see if PeeCee likes the script and signs on the dotted line. The movie is set to go on floors in March-April 2013.
And while we wait for the official announcement to happen, we can’t help but agree with the makers’ choice. Wethinks the tough and gutsy Priyanka (if she is indeed the chosen one) seems just right for the role of Mary Kom. What do you think readers?
