They are coming together after a gap of six years. And considering that whenever Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan have teamed up they have delivered blockbusters such as Main Hoon Na (2004) and Om Shanti Om (2007), it doesn't come as a surprise that the excitement is sky-high about their next collaboration, Happy New Year.
But the big question still remains - who's going to be SRK's girl? Although the buzz suggests that Priyanka Chopra might bag the film, Farah is amused with such talk. "No one is finalised for the female lead yet. I am making the film but it's the media that keeps deciding things for me," says the director.
Katrina Kaif S he has worked with SRK in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, so, ideally, no filmmaker would like to repeat the pair so soon. Besides, we have heard that Katrina's next Knight And Day (2010) remake with Hrithik Roshan will start around FebruaryMarch which might clash with Happy New Year's schedule, which is likely to kick off in January.
After the release of Jab Tak Hai Jaan, she will also be busy wrapping up the Aamir Khan-starrer Dhoom:3 which will take away a big chunk of her dates. Kareena Kapoor T o start with, Bebo, who has just got married to Saif Ali Khan, hasn't decided on any film except for Prakash Jha's Satyagraha and a Karan Johar-production with Imran Khan. With her too, dates might be a major issue considering KJo's next, which is being directed by Punit Malhotra, is going on floors at the start of 2013.
Besides, the pre-production work on Satyagraha is also likely to start around the same time. Anushka Sharma F rom next year onwards, Anushka is going to probably be the busiest female actor in terms of dates. As soon as Jab Tak Hai Jaan releases, she will get into the post-production work for Vishal Bhardwaj's Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. By the time the film releases, she will start shooting for Rajkumar Hirani's P.K. with Aamir Khan, followed by Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet with Ranbir Kapoor.
This clearly doesn't leave Anushka any time for Happy New Year. Priyanka Chopra O f late, Priyanka and Shah Rukh have been embroiled in a controversy that has been in the headlines. Although PC insists that she and SRK were "always" and "will always" be friends, it's unlikely that Farah will cast them together. However, rumour mills suggest that Priyanka might just make the cut.
Still, the dates issue is plaguing PC as well. Apart from the Zanjeer remake with Ram Charan Teja, she will also start shooting for Gunday with Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor towards the start of next year. Deepika Padukone S he was launched by Farah in SRK-starrer Om Shanti Om in 2007.
But what goes against DP is that she is working with King Khan in Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express right now. It's almost confirmed that Deepika isn't even in consideration for the part since Chennai Express and Happy New Year will be Shah Rukh's back-to-back releases next year. And of course, no one wants to see the same pair on screen twice in a row.
But interestingly, the trade circle is also abuzz with talk that none of the top female actors might make the cut for different reasons. It makes us wonder if a new girl will be the chosen one. We check why the stars currently ruling the roost might not make it.
