There have been many speculations about either Shahrukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan or Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar postponing its release date to avoid a clash this Diwali. So far the odds were against Ajay Devgn, as JTHJ had everything going for it.
King Khan paired with two gorgeous beauties Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, the AR Rahman-Gulzar musical combo and direction by the king of romance, Yash Chopra. SOS, on the other hand, aimed firmly at the stalls. But now, with Salman Khan helping promote the massy entertainer, the tables have suddenly turned.
What Yash Chopra’s romantic musical has against it is its length; at a running time of 2 hours 57 minutes it is a little long for the general audience to sit through. Plus, none of its songs have caught on big time with the crowds.
SOS now boasts of Salman’s patronage, a catchy item number that features the Ek Tha Tiger star and everything else that the trailer and songs promised, all packed into just 2hrs 19mins. This also means that SOS gets more shows and stands to recover more money at the box office, while JTHJ will have to make do only with the elite multiplex audience and hardcore Shahrukh fans.
Our friends in the trade suggest that the top brass at Yash Raj Films be warned of these odds, or else the film that Yash Chopra last directed stands to lose heavily against Son Of Sardaar.
