Rohit Shetty is mostly known for his massy entertainers that rake in the moolah at the BO, but his Ajay Devgn-Kajal Aggarwal starrer Singham was ‘hatke’. It went on to make Rs 100crores at the BO, but the film was hailed as fillip to the reputation of cops, who usually show up after the crime has been committed or are part of the crime itself.

NAVRATRI SPECIAL, Ajay Devgn wins the battle over criminals in Singham

Special screenings of Singham were held for the police forces and their families and in a way their collective reputation seemed redeemed. On the fourth day of Navratri we highlight films that show the victory of cops over criminals. Though different from Singham in treatment, Salman Khan’s Wanted is one of this kind, where the criminals are trounced and sent to hell by the hands and heels of the leading man.

Salman’s Dabangg too shows the victory of justice, albeit delivered in Chulbul Pandey’s own twisted way. Of course, Akshay Kumar’s moustachioed cop act in Rowdy Rathore had its moments of this same flavor, though the emphasis was on the ‘rowdy’ aspect.

And how can we forget Aamir Khan as the pint-sized cop in Sarfarosh? Though Aamir may have been shorter than everybody – including his leading lady Sonali Bendre – he made up for it with his intense acting. It would be interesting to see what crime Aamir tackles in his new film Talaash.

We dedicate this day to these characters that have stood up against criminals and their sinister plans and ensured that the baddies are punished. We salute these bravehearts! And wish you a very happy Navratri!
