Reigning Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders were knocked out of the Champions League T20 after their crucial match against Perth Scorchers was washed off, here yesterday.
Kolkata who chances anyways had grim chances of making it to the semifinals after two consecutive losses after required to win this match to keep their hopes, but luck ran out for them as only 14 overs could be bowled before the match officials call it a day. They have now become the first team to crash out of the tournament.
Opting to field first in the match, the IPL outfits made a good start and Herchelle Gibbs was sent back to hut in the first over of the match by Brett Lee. But Shaun Marsh and Simon Katich joined forces to stich a 70 runs partnership for the second wicket. However South African gave KKR a tiel breakthrough after he removed Shaun Marsh.
Marsh scored 38 off 40 deliveries including three fours and a six, while Katich stayed unbeaten on 43 off 32 balls laced with four boundaries. The scorecard read 91-2 in 14 overs, when the curtains were drawn in the match.
