Soundarya’s family at war

The late actress' relatives are fighting a legal battle over her property which is estimated to be worth over Rs 50 crore. It was a tragic end to the life of Soundarya and her brother Amarnath, whose plane crashed in 2004 whilst she was campaigning for the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections that year.

The star reportedly left a will stating that she owned six properties besides ornaments in gold in addition to other assets. Now, according to sources, her family is fighting a legal battle over her property — with her mother K.S. Manjula and her husband G.S Raghu on one side and her sister-in-law Nirmala (Amarnath’s widow) and her son Sathvik on the other.

Sources indicate that the will has clearly stated that one of the houses be bequeathed to Sathvik and another house (which was under construction then) be jointly given to her mother, brother’s family and her family. Another house was to be bequeathed to her husband and children. The legal battle reportedly began when Sathvik approached the court claiming that his grandmother, who was not honouring Soundarya’s, will was thwarting his claims over the property that was rightly given to him.

Things took an ugly turn when both parties filed complaints at a local police station in Hyderabad. Advocate Dhanraj, counsel for Soundarya’s sister-in-law, filed a defamation suit against Manjula and Raghu in a police complaint filed in Sadha-shivanagar Police Station alleging that the will executed in 2003 was forged.

Tollywood sources also indicate that the local court has approved the petition filed. Manjula and Raghu have been summoned for a hearing on November 2. Soundarya tied the knot with Raghu in 2003. Since her death, Raghu has remarried, but he has joined Soundarya’s mother to fight for the possession of the property.
