Akshay's daughter gets grandpa’s surnameFans and film industry peers alike joined Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna in welcoming their newborn on September 25. The couple was blessed with a baby daughter last week around the time Akshay’s film, OMG Oh My God! was set to hit theatres. And now, as his film makes an impressive start at the box-office, we hear that the little baby’s star parents have just come up with a name for her — Nitara Khanna-Bhatia. “Both Akshay and Twinkle thought of the name together. The idea was to come up with a unique, yet meaningful, name. Essentially, it’s a Sanskrit word, which means ‘having deep roots’. The duo had zeroed in on a couple of other names but since they were equally excited about Nitara, they agreed upon it almost instantly,” says an insider.

What’s even more interesting is that Akshay, who was born Rajiv Bhatia, has decided to give his late father-in-law Rajesh Khanna’s surname to Nitara as well. “After Kaka’s demise, Akshay was clear that he wanted his daughter to have Khanna as her second name followed by his original family name,” adds the insider. “It’s his way of paying respect to Kaka, whom he was always very fond of.” The couple already has a 10-year-old son, Aarav, whose name Akshay has tattooed on his back.

Akshay, we are told, is elated with his little bundle of joy. “When she was born, his film, was going to release amidst a lot of buzz. So, he considers Nitara as his big lucky charm. Aarav is as excited as his dad about his baby sister,” says the insider. It’s believed that Akshay and Twinkle decided upon the name on Saturday itself. “Akshay will make it (the name) public soon because he doesn’t want any drama surrounding his daughter since it’s a very special time for him and his family. Right now, he is spending some quality time with them,” adds the insider. When contacted, Akshay remained unavailable for a comment.
