Winning the title of best dancer in a dance reality show is the realisation of Gurmeet Choudhary’s five year dream. “I remember watching the first episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa… five years ago with my wife Debina in a restaurant. We decided right there that we wanted to be on the show, and today
I am the winner. It is more than a dream come true,” he says, adding, “I never entered the competition with the thought of winning or losing. I always thought of giving every episode my best.”

Joining the league of Prachi Desai, Baichung Bhutia and Gauhar Khan as winners of the show, Choudhary is grateful to his fans. “I have never been a trained dancer before entering the show. I just knew how to shake a leg for a friend’s baraat. I learnt to dance well on the show. But it was definitely my fan’s love that made me enter the competition and kept me at it,” he admits. The win did not come easy, Choudhary confides, “I have slept for only one hour a day for the last four months. I would shoot 12 hours for my TV soap Punar Vivah and then rehearse from 8pm to 5am daily for Jhalak…” The actor also dislocated his left shoulder in the beginning of the show but preferred to keep mum about it fearing he would “dishearten” his fans.

Now, he hopes to dance in a Bollywood item number soon. “It would be fun. I would love to dance in a Hindi masala movie,” he says. And it seems like the actor has already found a filmy well-wisher. "Karan Johar’s comments were very encouraging. Even during the beginning of the show, when I was not performing well, he showed faith in me and said that I had the ability to do what nobody has ever seen before," he says.
