Hema Malini, the Dream-girl of the Bollywood and BJP MP, still going energetically at 63, received International recognition while she was acknowledged with the International Personality of the Year Award at the 12th Asian Achievers Awards held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London a day before.

Hema ji is elated by the fact that Sarvam Trust; a venture of Arabindo Society supporting and promoting education in rural India; was opted by the Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar; the organizers of the Awards; as their charity. Sarvam Trust joins hands and facilitates better sanitary, health, educational facilities in villages all across Indian Subcontinent. Funds raised through auctions amounted to 1,21,000 pounds; Sachin Tendulkar’s iconic bat with which he hit his 100th century was sold out for 6000 pounds.

“Woman of the Year Gold Award” was nabbed by Shahnaz Husain for her Herbal Care range; “Platinum Award for Life Time Achievement” went to Lord Gulam Noon, of Noon Products; “Platinum Award for Business Person of the Year” was secured by Subaskaran Alirajah, founder and Chairman of Lycatel and Lycamobile Group of companies; Nileeka Gunawardene got the “Gold Award for Achievement in Media, Arts and Culture”, for founding the Bollywood Dance London in 2010; Akaash Bhatia was honoured with “Platinum Award for Sports Personality of the Year” for his boxing skills; Rear-Admiral Amjad Mazhar Hussain, of Royal Navy UK, garnered “Gold Award for Uniformed and Civil Service”; and England Cricketer Kevin Pietersen received “International Sporting Personality of the Year Award”.

Minister of State in charge of India, Rt Hon Gregory Barker, MP, was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. Editor of Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar, C.B. Patel confirms that around 5 million pounds have been raised by many activities and charities in UK, India and East Africa, collectively.
