The talented actor celebrates his 47th birthday! Born on September 10, 1965 in Belgaum and brought up in Solapur, Atul Kulkarni is a well known Bollywood actor and theatre personality. He worked in plays in school, and later joined the Natya Aradhana, an amateur theatre group that groomed him. After completing his graduation in English literature, Atul decided to take up acting as a profession. He trained at the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
After acting in numerous plays in many different languages, he made his film debut in 1997 Kannada film Bhoomi Geetha. He then went on to act in many Tamil films before setting his eyes on Bollywood. His power-packed performance in films like Chandni Bar, Satta, Rang De Basanti, Page 3, Khakee and Delhi 6 made him a talent to reckon with.
In 2000, Kulkarni bagged his first National Award in the best supporting actor category for his incredible performance in Kamal Haasan’s controversial film Hey Ram. Atul received another National Award two years later for his commendable performance in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Chandni Bar.
In the recent years, Atul has been equally active in Marathi films. His 2007 film Maati Maay premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. In 2010, Atul went on to act in the National Award-winning film Natarang for which he received critical appreciation. This year Atul will be seen in Hollywood production Singularity, starring Josh Hartnett and Bipasha Basu in the lead.
