Buzz is that when Sridevi saw the first copy of her comeback film English Vinglish, it brought tears to her eyes. No, she wasn’t overwhelmed, it’s just that it took her back to her struggling days in Bollywood. Everyone knows thatSridevi started her acting career in South cinema and was a big name to reckon with, there. It was when she made her debut in Hindi cinema that her real struggle began. Being a South Indian, the actor couldn’t speak fluently in Hindi and had a weak command over English too.

She had to work hard at learning her dialogues and communicating with the people of the industry. When Gauri Shinde, director of English Vinglish narrated the script to her, Sridevi immediately agreed as she could relate to it. The film depicts a woman’s struggle with language (Hindi and English) and her insecurities. It captures her transformation and that is what Sridevi connected to.
