My song is not an item: Sonakshi SinhaThough Sonakshi Sinha’s latest song Go go Govinda with choreographer Prabhu Deva was touted as her first item number, the actor begs to differ. “It’s not an item number. It is a song with a difference,” says the 25-year-old, adding, “The term ‘item song’ is used very loosely these days. Any solo number is termed as an item song. This is a good song with Prabhu, and is very different from other item numbers.”

Sonakshi and Prabhu Deva have done a special appearance in Umesh Shukla’s Oh My God and will be seen dancing to the tunes of Go go Govinda. Oh My God is a screen adaptation of the Gujarati play Kanji Virudhh Kanji, which has also been remade in Hindi as Krishna vs Kanhaiya.

The movie stars Akshay Kumar in the lead, and Sonakshi is there only for a song. Her overall look is quite casual as the song is “associated with young people,” says Sonakshi, adding, “I feel nice about the song. It is very festive.” The song depicts the dahi handi event that takes place on Janmashtami, where Sonakshi plays Govinda but fortunately did not have to climb a human pyramid to break the handi.

“The human pyramid had only women between the ages of 6 to 60. The sturdier women were at the bottom while the teenagers stood on them and the small kids broke the matki,” reveals Sonakshi. The song was even shown to her father, veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha in hospital, where he is recovering from a bypass surgery in a Mumbai  hospital. “Popular Govinda numbers like Shor Mach Gaya Shor Dekho Aaya Maakhan Chor and Teen Batti Waala Govinda Aala were filmed on me, so I enjoyed Sonakshi’s Go Go Govinda from Akshay’s film. I feel fortunate that Govinda songs are all in the family,” Sinha said in a recent interview.
