When actor Soha Ali Khan sets her mind on something, she knows she wants it. “I’ve never planned my life. That’s why I’m currently following my third profession, acting. It has been a good five years so far and I’m thinking films are something I’m going to stick to for some time longer,” she says, when she was in Bangalore to flag off the Kingfisher Derby.
The actor says that she’s impulsive when it comes to her relationships too. “I’m very content right now with the way my love life (with actor Kunal Khemu) is progressing. While marriage is not on the cards right now, I would never rule it out, being the way I am. I do things at short notice, so I could get married tomorrow also,” says Soha, who adds, “Though, I will inform my parents, of course.” The actor is particularly excited about being part of Deepa Mehta’s 'Winds Of Change', which is an adaptation of one of her favourite book (Salman Rushie’s Midnight’s Children). “It is a great project to be in. The director’s so fabulous and the star cast is equally wonderful,” says Soha, though she rues the fact that the project saw some policing.
“Deepa had to keep the shooting hushed up fearing fundamentalists trying to prevent the filming and that’s tragic. If people see how the film has turned out, I’m sure no one will crib,” says Soha. The actor, who hasn’t had the conventional career path like most other Bollywood heroines, says, “I am fortunate that I’m working at a time where I have my own little space and can experiment with the different genres. It gives me the willingness to stick on to cinema for a long time.”
And Soha doesn’t rule out branching out into other areas of film-making. “Right now, I am enjoying acting, but production is something that I like. I would never get into direction though. I can’t even drive, so if I end up directing, it would be a complete mess,” she signs off.
