Awards are a dime a dozen today, however there are a few that stand out like for instance the Smita Patil Award for excellence in cinema. The latest is that actress Deepika Padukone will be honoured with the biennial Smita Patil Memorial Award instituted by Priyadarshni Academy for her contribution to the film industry.

The said award will be presented to her at the 28th anniversary global awards function of the Priyadarshni Academy on September 18. While at the same event industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla will also be honoured with the Harish Mahindra Memorial Global Award for outstanding contribution to "globalisation of Indian industry". The awards will be presented by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil and state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh.
