Sanjay Dutt’s make up and costume in Son of Sardar (SOS) have a resemblance with Sunil Dutt’s dacoit avatar in Mujhe Jeene Do (MJD). On seeing the likeness, sources say Sanju broke down and wept. Dutt’s plans of remaking his father's immortal dacoit drama MJD have been incorporated into the Ajay Devgn starrer SOS.
Says a source, “The original plan was not to cast Sanju as a replica of his dad from Mujhe Jeene Do. When Sanju signed SOS, he didn’t even know what his role was. He just did it blindly for his friend Ajay Devgn, the film’s producer. His get up in Agneepath was a super success and that’s when Ajay suggested that director Ashwin Dheer give his pal a special get up.”
While the various looks were being discussed, Dutt suggested his father’s MJD, which had fascinated him as a child. Dutt plays Sonakshi Sinha’s over-possessive brother. “Audiences will see Dutt riding a horse after a very long time. It’s uncanny how much he resembles his father in SOS. When I pointed it out to Sanjay Dutt he got very emotional,” says Dheer.
In the 1980s, Dutt played a dacoit in Jeene Do, which was homage to his father in MJD. At that time, Dutt had felt he was too young to do justice to the role. “Now, he will be able to convey his deep admiration for his father in his performance,” says Dheer, adding that Dutt and Devgn will indulge in a fist-to-fist combat in the climax of SOS.
