Actor Ranbir Kapoor told a local court yesterday (July 26, 2012) through his lawyer that his being seen smoking in a public place in Udaipur was part of the shoot of a film. The actor was summoned by the court to appear in connection with a case against him for allegedly smoking in public.
Ranbir Kapoor did not appear before the court in person, but said through his lawyer that the incident when he was photographed smoking in public was a scene of the film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, which was being shot in Udaipur. The court has fixed next hearing in the case for August 27, 2012. The actor had come to Udaipur in connection with the shooting of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and was seen smoking at Gangaur Ghat, a location of the shooting near Lake Pichola in Ghantaghar Police station Area.
Harish, a resident of Jagdish Chowk, had filed a complaint with Ghantaghar police station on June 1 under section 5/1 of the Rajasthan Smoking Prohibition Act 2010. The police had collected evidence from newspaper reports and video of the event and found Ranbir prima facie guilty of the offence.
