Satyamev Jayate: Aamir Khan urges to conserve water

Aamir Khan’s TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is nearing its closure for sure, but has succeeded in leaving an indelible impact on the audiences across the nation. The penultimate episode of the show threw light on water conservation and urged the need to stop polluting our rivers.

India is among those lucky nations that are bestowed with surplus water sources. But we have not been able to conserve and value them, and hence our iconic water bodies including the Ganga, the Yamuna, the Godavari and many others are on the verge of drying up.

The 12th episode of SJ showed images of a number of Indian villages that have severe water shortage. With little or no water to drink, many villages have become handicapped in several ways and have been depending on water from tankers for consumption. The plight of those villagers dealing with water scarcity is unimaginable.

Aamir spoke to a number of social activists who have been working on water preservation/conservation for years and asked them to highlight ways in which the problem of water scarcity can be dealt with. After discussing reasons for the growing dearth of water in the cities as well as the interiors, solutions to tackle such problems were also discussed. Rainwater harvesting was one such method that one and all residing in cities could adopt. With the hope of seeing sufficient quality water in India, Aamir signed off, leaving us wondering what he has in store for us in the concluding episode of the first season of ‘Sayamev Jayate’.
