Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty-starrer Cocktail, released on Friday the 13 (July), has grossed nearly Rs 55 crore in its opening week. This is the highest week collection ever for the Nawab, among all his movies- be it solo or a multi-starrer.
On a critical note, Cocktail got a mixed review. If one terms the movie as ‘full of fizz’, the other called it ‘a mostly flat romance’. Cocktail, made with a budget of Rs 30 crore, became an instant hit with a good opening at the box-office. The film grossed over Rs 35 crore in its first weekend, majorly from multiplexes. However following word of mouth, it later turned out to be stronger even at single screen theatres.
Cocktail gathered good business abroad as well. In USA, it grossed $220,000 on the first day alone, while in the UK the movie’s first two day collections added upto GBP 201,627 and AD 117,014 in Australia. At the time of its release, Cocktail had a tough competition against Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Bol Bachchan, yet the it succeed to lure the moviegoers. Nevertheless, with The Dark Knight Rises releasing this weekend, one needs to see whether Cocktail stands any chance for yet another steady week at the box-office.
