The film, starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, opened to a flying start on Friday and raked in a decent Rs. 11 crore. The collection went up to Rs. 12 crore on Saturday and peaked at Rs. 13 crore on Sunday. The film’s hit music has worked in its favour and the performances of the three actors have been appreciated by the critics, even though some have slammed the film’s cluttered second half.
But a collection of Rs. 36 crore in the opening weekend is as good as it gets for a rom-com. Saif Ali Khan, whose last release Agent Vinod was a box office turkey, must be a relieved man since Cocktail was produced jointly by him and his partner Dinesh Vijan.
Meanwhile, Bol Bachchan completed its ten days at box office with an excellent figure of Rs. 82 crore nett. The film’s business got hit on Friday with the release of Cocktail, but it picked up on Sunday again. The film is still a good Rs. 18 crore away from entering the 100 crore club. It is likely to achieve that feat by the end of this week, or the start of the next. The coming Friday would see the release of small budget films Challo Driver and Gattu. The next big release of the month would be Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum on July 27.
