Fortunes swung vigorously in the last Test. Hayden smacked a brilliant 203 but Australia collapsed from 340/3 to 391 all out. Their last six batsmen added just four runs. Harbhajan picked up seven wickets, Zaheer and Bahutule took one each, while Waugh was given out ‘handled the ball’. In reply, India amassed 501.
In the second innings, only one Australian managed to score a fifty as Harbhajan went about mesmerising the visitors. With 155 needed to win the match and the series, India suffered a spine-chilling collapse. From 101/2, the hosts crumbled to 151/8. Sameer Dighe scored a valiant 22 but it was Harbhajan who unflappably pushed a McGrath half-volley square of the wicket for the winning runs. Bhajji finished the series with 32 wickets.
