The movie falls flat for its weak plot and storyline which offers nothing new to the audience. Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly superb. The three characters that Priyanka Chopra portrays in this flick fail to do any justice to her caliber. The movie is rather disappointing, say critics.
"The three love stories turned into one Teri Meri Kahaani has little love and more randomness. There is no connection shown between any of the three eras, the characters don’t remember their past lives and though this helps in cutting down on the melodrama, the movie feels absolutely pointless.
Teri Meri Kahaani really lacks in showing that destiny has brought the couple together in more than one lifetime and this makes the movie simply a compilation of three random stories," writes Priyanka Ketkar, Koimoi.com.
"Independently and collectively, the three love stories divided in three different eras of Teri Meri Kahaani do accomplish at portraying how our lives are influenced and even revolutionized by the times we live in. However, the film doesn't thrive on all accounts, there are a few dull moments [the present-day story stagnates after a point and the pacing tends to get unhurried.
Thus making you fidgety and impatient at times], but buried in its experimental storytelling and innate performances is a heartwarming tale that's gratifying and succeeds in planting a smile on your face. Especially the way Kunal concludes the three stories!" writes Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama.
"It is unlikely that the rather soulless Teri Meri Kahaani will last beyond the first week in the multiplexes. The film is only two hours long and yet it trudges down its hazy path rather sluggishly and, worse still, goes nowhere in particular," writes Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV.
"There is no doubt in the fact that the movie falls flat for its weak plot and storyline which offers nothing new to the audience which they would take home and cherish for days. There is no sense of chronology as the narrative begins with 1960, moves to 2012 and then, bizarrely, comes back to 1910," writes Resham Sengar, SpiceZee.
"Reliving the romantic genre, filmmaker Kunal Kohli is back to woo the audience with his latest romantic flick Teri Meri Kahaani, starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Teri Meri Kahaani is a much-awaited triple-treat tale of love and romance, which weaves three stories spanning over different eras into one single flick," reports OneIndia.
Performances
"Not many actors get the opportunity to portray three diverse roles in a single movie. But Shahid carries each of those parts with refinement, besides looking debonair in each character. There is no quizzing his performing abilities either. He pulls the act with effortlessness and panache. As a matter of fact, whenever Shahid has attempted something diverse, the results have been luminous.
From playing a musician in Bollywood to a compulsive flirt in Punjab to the unflustered and trendy youngster settled in U.K., Shahid does an exceptional job. Among the three characters, his take as Javed is sure to win him accolades," feels Adarsh.
"As the spirited Aradhana of 1910, the dazzling movie star Rukhsar of 1960 or the joyful Radha of 2012, Priyanka is a complete livewire in each of the acts. On a personal level, I liked her the most as Aradhana, a full-on Punjabi girl who's vivacious and bubbly. What also makes the film work is the chemistry the two actors share. They appear exceptionally comfy with each other and bring to the table what the spectators are looking for," he adds.
"Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly superb. To pull-off three drastically different characters – one of a well-mannered simpleton (Govind), another of the flirtatious Javed and finally of the modern, practical, typical boy, Krish – is definitely a tough job and Shahid has managed each role with a remarkable finesse. Priyanka Chopra also on the other hand, has three different roles, yet she looks and appears the same in all the three roles. Prachi Desai and Neha Sharma have hardly any role but they fare well," says Ketkar.
"Actor Shahid Kapoor fares well both as Javed Quadri, a good-for-nothing lad of the pre-Independence India who sleeps around with every girl he sets his eyes on and as a struggling musician Govind who falls for a known Bollywood actress (played by Priyanka Chopra) of the 1960s," says Sengar.
"Coming over to Priyanka Chopra; what is disheartening is the fact that the three characters she plays in this flick fails to do any justice to her caliber. Post ‘Saath Khoon Maaf’ and ‘Fashion’, this movie is certainly not going to add any weightage to her acting career," Sengar adds.
"Shahid Kapoor is a complete surprise package in the movie. Kapoor is seen in such a gritty role for the first time and to one's surprise he has done justice to his respective roles from different eras. In short, Shahid does an exceptional waku doki job throughout the movie. On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra is just outstanding waku doki in her roles.
Since Priyanka and Shahid made a great onscreen pair in Kaminey, and that Teri Meri Kahaani is their first film ever since they parted ways after a rumoured whirlwind romance, also contributes to the audience curiosity. The best part in the movie is the chemistry between the duo and the way Kunal concludes the three stories. The distinctiveness of the film is intriguing enough to make the viewers hang on and await for every scene," says OneIndia.
