Hrithik Roshan-starrer `Agneepath', a remake of the 1990 Hindi film, will hit cinemas in January 2012. "Agneepath releases on January 13th, 2012," producer Karan Johar announced on micro-blogging site twitter today.
Hrithik will reprise Amitabh Bachchan's iconic role -- Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. Priyanka Chopra will be the female lead, while the character played by Mithun Chakraborty in the original has not found place in the remake. Sanjay Dutt would reportedly play the villain''s role (original: Danny Denzongpa). Dutt is said to have shaved his head, bulked up and sported tattoos on arms for the role. Veteran Rishi Kapoor too will be seen in a negative role. Directed by Johar''s former assistant, Karan Malhotra, the remake is reportedly radically different from the original film. Hrithik''s look in the film was revealed on July 5 by Johar who posted a link of Agneepath''s facebook page on twitter. The original `Agneepath'' was directed by Mukul Anand. It starred Amitabh, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa; and was produced by Yash Johar, Karan''s late father. The film failed at the box-office, but Bachchan''s performance earned kudos; it also got him national award for Best Actor.
