There were no Bachchans or Khans. Not even Hrithik Roshan, who was expected to turn up till the last minute, but the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards 2012 sailed through and how. The Singapore Indoor Stadium was packed with thousands of Bollywood-crazy fans on Saturday, who hooted, sang and danced when actors Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha and Bipasha Basu put up a spectacular show with power-packed performances.
The event, hosted by actor Shahid Kapoor and filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar, saw Ranbir Kapoor take away the Best Actor trophy for Rockstar, while Vidya Balan won the award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Silk in The Dirty Picture. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara won the award for Best Film and its director Zoya Akhtar took home the Best Director trophy.
The starry evening also saw industry veterans getting felicitated. While actor and new MP Rekha, along with filmmaker Ramesh Sippy were awarded for outstanding achievement in Indian cinema, Norwegian actor Liv Ullman was honoured for her outstanding contribution to International cinema.
The clear favourite of the crowd, Ranbir Kapoor, gave a scintillating performance and danced to his hit numbers, before his dad, Rishi Kapoor, joined him on stage. The audience roared with laughter when the two realised they had worn each other’s jackets by mistake. While Ranbir’s jacket was oversized and hung loosely from the shoulders, Rishi could barely fit his tummy in the one he wore.
