Actor Ajay Devgn, who has been juggling between comedies and action when it comes to his big screen outings, reveals that the genre is never the deciding factor for him while choosing films. “I decide my films based on one criteria alone and that is the film has to be interesting enough. Of course, the filmmakers matter too, but apart from these two factors, the genre, length of role, etc, just don’t matter,” says Ajay. As for him preferring action or comedy, the actor adds, “I think today the audience wants a little bit of everything, so there’s comedy in action and action in comedy. Then why choose between the two when you can have both.” And while the actor’s known for his action image, those close to the actor would vouch for his sense of humour too.

In fact, Ajay’s known to be quite a prankster on sets too. “Comedy comes just as easy as action, though I would say that making people laugh is harder than pulling off a risky stunt. In action, we have to depend on our action co-ordinators, while in comedy, the timing with your co-actors has to be perfect to get the desired effect on screen, so both are dependent on teamwork, in a way.

But yes it’s difficult to decide between the two,” adds Ajay. That’s also why even the actor’s upcoming film Bol Bachchan, though a comedy has several hardcore action sequences. While the actor’s known to have worked on several action scenes himself, an insider reveals that the actor also made some contributions when it came to the comedy in the filmdirected by Rohit Shetty, who has earlier teamed up with Ajay on Singham and Golmaal series. And just like Rohit had given Ajay’s character a few signature moves and dialogues in the previous films, an insider reveals that in Bol Bachchan too, Ajay’s character is shown to have a peculiar characteristic. According to sources, this time around, the inspiration has been Ajay himself.

“In Singham, Ajay’s dialogue Aata majhi satakli had caught on, while in Golmaal his finger breaking act was quite a hit. So, Rohit was keen on showing some unique quirk in Bol Bachchan too and decided to have Ajay mouth a few lines in English which would be literal translations of Hindi proverbs,” says a source.

“Since Ajay plays a wrestler from an akhaada, who is addicted to speaking in English,though he barely knows the language, Rohit thought it would be fun to have Ajay do literal translations of famous Hindi muhawaras! Butinterestingly it was Ajay who came up with the funniest translations. And what started off as a joke on sets, was soon incorporated in the film too. So, many of these proverbs are actually Ajay’s idea,” the source adds.
