Unlike previous years, 2012’s top celeb shaadis will be hush-hush affairs. Recent weddings in Bollywood have been big band-baaja affairs, but the ones coming up this year have the couples keeping it low-key. John Abraham, who is the latest to declare that his wedding to girlfriend Priya Runchal is due this year, says it will be a simple, private affair.
“I’ll have a secret wedding. It will be a very quiet thing. When I marry, nobody will know about it. My dream wedding would be at home with just three to four friends and my parents. Without any disrespect, that big loud Bollywood kind of wedding is not our style at all,” said the 39-year-old actor in a recent interview.
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are also tight-lipped about their shaadi even as their Khan-daan has announced the date and venue. Even after repeated attempts, Saifeena refused to comment on their October 16 wedding at the Pataudi Palace. “It’s going to be a very low-key affair. There will be a reception too but not a big one,” said Saif’s mother, actor Sharmila Tagore, adding that only family members from both sides will be present at the ceremony.
Actor Geeta Basra and cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who have never gone public with their relationship, are also set for a wedding without fanfare this September, says a source. “The secret shaadi is expected to kick-off with private ceremonies in Geeta’s hometown, Yorkshire in England, and conclude in Bhajji’s village in Punjab.”
Actor Dia Mirza and her entrepreneur boyfriend Sahil Sangha, who have been seeing each other for long, also wish for their wedding to be private. “I want an intimate wedding, surrounded by the people I wouldn’t want to get married without,” said Mirza, who has postponed her wedding to early next year due to work commitments. The other stars expected to marry privately this year but have not confirmed a date include Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan, Neetu Chandra and Randeep Hooda and Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra.
