Actor Chitrangada Singh has a mission: to keep adding to the many firsts on her list this year. From her first commercial film, to doing her first item number and hosting an award function forthe very first time. Anything that she’s never done in her life, she plans to attempt it at least once.
Currently the dusky actor’s quite excited about reuniting with her mentor, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra forhis new film Kaam. Chitrangda feels very strongly about the issue being dealt with in the film that of sexual harassment.“It is a love story that unfolds against the backdrop of sexual harassment in the workplace. As a woman I understand the issue too well. Because whatever the set-up may be urban or rural women are subjected to discrimination.
Men find them to be easy targets. But I have been lucky where I am; I have not faced any such thing in the film industry. I believe that these things are not rampant in our industry because we have a choice not to work with certain people we don’t feel comfortable with. We are the ones who decide whether we want to work or be associated with someone or not, or be associated with a particular project or not. But in a 9-5 job that’s just not possible. There, people can’t get to choose their boss or colleagues. There is no guarantee that things will be good,” she elaborates. So then given an opportunity in life, what is the one thing that she would love to get a lifetime guarantee on?
“I would love to get lifetime guarantee from any trainer about my fitness. I’d love to be assured that I shall be as fit as I’m today, forever. Also, I don’t mind if I get guarantee that all my films will do great business and are loved by audiences too,” quips Chitrangada.
Ask her if she’s making a conscious attempt to break away from her so-called serious image? “I just know that I want to do good work. I want to try new things. Be it an item number or hosting an award function. No hero does action for lifetime, then why are heroines expected to stick to doing just one thing? I want to try variety of things and if that is called breaking away from image then maybe yes!”
