Actor Aamir Khan, who is on a countrywide promo tour in the run-up to his debut mini-screen game show ‘Satyamev Jayate' that will soon be simultaneously telecast on eight language channels of the Star Network besides Doordarshan, has said he has it in him to naturally connect with people irrespective of language or regional differences. Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Khan said he was an ‘extremely emotional' person.
“Not many people know that I cry easily…. As an individual, I don't hide my emotions. I end up crying when I see a film, at times even an ad film,” he said. The actor said during his sojourns over the past couple of years to various locales of the country for the game show, he could empathise with the country's real heroes. “Maybe there's an initial inhibition, but soon the ice breaks and they and I easily connect with each other. By nature, I'm curious and so it is easy for me to make people open up,” said the thinking actor, calling the experience an emotional rollercoaster ride. Mr. Khan said with age, he was learning to take life lightly and less seriously.
“Humour is an important part of life,” he said, citing the light-hearted portrayal of life in films ‘Three Idiots' and ‘Delhi Belly'. Answering a query, he said he wasn't interested in politics. As an entertainer, he felt he could do a lot for society. “I am an entertainer and that is what I enjoy doing…. While I am not an activist, there are people who have dedicated their life to it. As an Indian, as a sensitive human, I use my voice to support their cause.”
On the nomination of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha, he said Tendulkar was someone with very high integrity. “He is sensible and intelligent and these are the qualities I would like to see in a Rajya Sabha member. The fact that he accepted the nomination shows that he feels he can contribute to the society.”
He said after the launch of the game show, he would resume shooting for the slightly-delayed ‘Talaash' directed by Reema Kagti. Mr. Khan said he didn't watch television or films as much as he ought to. “I enjoyed watching Doordarshan and its multi-lingual programmes in childhood,” he said and confessed that he was an avid reader savouring the written word instead.
