After American television stars Poorna Jagannathan in Delhi Belly and Sendhil Ramamurthy in Shor In The City won accolades for their performances, more Hollywood TV actors have decided to bite the Bollywood pie with the forthcoming film Love, Lies and Seeta.
Despite four TV stars in the film,New York based director Chandra Pemmaraju says, “It wasn’t a conscious choice,” adding, “When we announced the auditions, 1,500 people responded and it took two months to finalize the cast.”
While Chandra already knew Melanie Kannokada (Rules of Engagement and Parenthood), he found Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) at an international film festival in Florida. Similarly Michael Derek (As the World Turns) was found through screen tests. Chandra says, “Since it was an audition for a feature film in New York, they responded to our casting call and ended up being part of the film. When we finally finished the casting, we found ourselves with an impressive cast with great resumes.”
Ask him if he feels his cast could make inroads in B-Town and he says, “They are effortless in their acting and have been making forays into the American TV and film industry. Given the popularity of international faces in India, they may do well.”Chandra reveals that another actor who will be seen in the film is Lavrenti Lopes (Sub Hysteria and Desperate Endeavours).
Love, Lies and Seeta, the film that stars these four actors, is a fun film about a girl, three guys, their friends and their summer in New York. It releases in India on May 4. This movie, Chandra says, was made on a budget lower than even the usual low-budget Bollywood film. For his next, the director hopes to make a movie set in Mumbai.
