‘Win should turn CSK’s fortunes’

Set a daunting task of scoring 206 to win by RCB, Chennai Super Kings had to make sure that they were off to a flying start. Opener Faf du Plessis, provided just that with a 46-ball 71 which set up things nicely for the home team. Later in the night, Albie Morkel’s heroics and cameos from MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo saw the hosts script a famous victory at the MAC. Plessis, who was adjudged man of the match, spoke on the famous win.

On the thrilling win: It was great to play a part in this exciting win. It was simply unbelievable. Even the best player award didn’t really matter to me as much as the victory did. This could well be the turning point for us this season. On his batting: I was hitting the ball well but was dismissed in a soft manner. So I was confident that a big knock was just around the corner. Facing a bolwing unit like that of RCB was special.

On Albie’s knock: We seemed down and out at that stage. It was an amazing show by Albie under pressure. I think the special thing with our line-up is that we bat so deep. On any specific game plan: We needed a good start here and thankfully everything went according to the plan. We didn’t try to attack Muralitharan and Vettori initially. I went after Vettori only when the asking run-rate went up. On the MAC wicket: We knew that it was a fantastic wicket. It wasn’t seaming or spinning. If the wicket had taken turn, it would have been difficult for us.
