Dabangg sweeps 12th IIFA Awards in Toronto

After winning the prestigious National Award for Wholesome Entertainment, Salman Khan starrer blockbuster Dabangg ruled the 12th IIFA Awards which took place in Toronto, Canada by winning 6 awards in the Popular category and 3 in the Technical category. Dabangg’s long list of tally includes awards for Best Picture (Arbaaz Khan), Music (Sajid-Wajid and Lalit Pandit), Playback Singer male (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for Tere Mast Mast Do Nain), Playback singer female (Mamta Sharma for Munni Badnaam), Debutant Star Female (Sonakshi Sinha), Performance in a Negative Role (Sonu Sood), Choreography (Farah Khan), Action (S Vijayan) and Sound Re-Recording (Leslie Fernandes).

Karan Johar won the award for Best Director for My Name Is Khan while Shah Rukh Khan bagged the award for Performance in a Leading Role (male) for the same film. Anushka Sharma’s portral of Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat won her the award for Performance in a Leading Role (female). Anushka’s co-star in the movie Ranveer Singh received the award for Debutant Star Male Award. For supporting roles, Arjun Rampal (Raajneeti) and Prachi Desai (Once Upon A Time In Mumbai) were declared winners. The surprise of the evening was Riteish Deshmukh winning the award for Performance in a Comic Role.

The evening saw some brilliant performances from Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Kangana Ranaut, Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha and the Deols (Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby). But the highlight of the evening was Shah Rukh’s act where he also imitated his rivals Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. The event will be telecast to over 700-million viewers worldwide.
