Vidya Balan surprise to her parents: Bollywood actress Vidya Balan says that Urumi is a gift to her parents. Vidya's parents who hail from Palakkad  had always wanted to see their daughter in a Malayalam movie. But she never showed interest in acting in a Malayalam movie especially after her debut movie Lohithadas' Chakram was shelved. Lohi later cast Meera Jasmine instead of Vidya when the film started rolling again.

Vidya later became one of the most wanted heroines in Bollywood after the release of Parineeta. Vidya is getting rave reviews as a social worker in Urumi.  Says Vidya: "I was approached to do the role of Makkom. I was sure that Santhosh film will be a nice one. It will be a nice gift for my parents who always wanted me to see in Malayalam"
